The text concerns the research carried out by the Patent Office before deciding on the fate of a patent application. As far as I am aware the "Vorhalt" refers to the documents used by the Patent Office to check prior art, but then the "vorgehaltenen" later on confuses me somewhat.

neutral  Vinzenz Spyra: To me "Vorhalte" looks more like AT German for "Entgegenhaltungen" (citations).
