Per "annealing" (= ricottura) può esserti utile la scheda di wikipedia:

"La ricottura di una lega metallica è un trattamento termico che consiste nel riscaldamento ad una temperatura solitamente inferiore a quella di fusione, seguito dalla permanenza di durata opportuna e da un lento raffreddamento solitamente in forno. [...]
Tramite la ricottura viene alterata la microstruttura del materiale, causando mutamenti nelle sue proprietà quali la flessibilità e la durezza. Il risultato tipico è la rimozione dei difetti della struttura cristallina. Può avere anche lo scopo di uniformare la composizione chimica dell'acciaio, in tal caso il riscaldamento è eseguito ad una temperatura più elevata e per tempi più lunghi."

Probabilmente, visto che si tratta di una procedura di riscaldamento, il materiale degli occhiali può subire delle alterazioni (colore, consistenza, ...).

"Gli effetti del trattamento di ricottura dipendono principalmente dalla sua temperatura e durata e le velocità con cui il materiale viene riscaldato e raffreddato diventano importanti solo quando occorre evitare l'insorgenza di fenomeni indesiderati.
In alcune leghe, tra cui in particolare gli ottoni al piombo, possono formarsi cricche a seguito di riscaldamenti rapidi, quando in esse sono presenti sforzi residui; queste leghe richiedono pertanto riscaldamenti adeguatamente lenti."
