the purpose of the marriage contract Explanation: Typically, the plural form مقتضيات means "requirements," (what many modern-day translators call متطلبات, which is not Arabic). In this instance, however, the writer is using the singular form, and it appears from the context that he means the ultimate goal of marriage. If I were allowed some leeway, I would drop the word "contract" from the phrase altogether, because the purpose is an attribute of marriage itself, not just the contract of marriage. At first, I thought the writer may have meant "the terms of the marriage contract," but I am more inclined towards "purpose" or any other teleological term. |
