وهو يشبه الخندق و لكنة فوق سطح الأرض و مفتوح من الناحتين الضيقتين و تصنع جوانبه من العروق و ألواح الخشب و تكون مائلة من أعلى إلي الخارج و قد تكون الجوانب مبنية تبعا لتوافر الإمكانيات وقد يكون الجزء الأكبر من السيلو الصندوقي فوق الأرض و الباقي تحت الأرض و عموما يكون قاعة مرتفعا عن مستوى الأرض هذا و يستخدم الجرار في ضغط كتلة العلف الأخضر في طبقات سمكها 20 – 30 سم أثناء ملء سيلو الحفرة و عندما يمتلئ السيلو إلي قمته تغطي جيدا بالبولي إثيلين ( إذا توفر ) و توضع فوقه أشياء ثقيلة ( طوب – حجارة – كتل خشبية – إطارات كاو تشوك قديمة ......إلخ )
