Explanation:
In archeology, there are pottery features "en saillie" which means that they are raised or embossed. I'm guessing there is some kind of pattern on the cylinder to differentiate it from the other, smooth cylinder, though I'm not quite sure why. Is it functional, or merely decorative? "Décor" can be a synonym of "motif" which would seem to apply here.

Asker: Hi. Thanks. I had thought of motif too. To answer your question: it's functional. That's how the layers are joined without glue. Like how layers of toilet paper stay together, for example.
