Hi everyone,

I have a phrase in a translation that is giving me fits. Any ideas on how to translation the following?

Twenty-six styles of flooring as distinctive and beautiful as America itself.

This is for a website and I am wondering how I should translate the final phrase, especially because of the "America" part, but also, how to make this comparison sound "normal" or "acceptable" in Spanish.

Con respecto al tema de \"América\", por tu comentario, imagino que quieren decir Estados Unidos. En un contexto más estricto que el publicitario, yo también me plantearía esa duda, pero aquí creo que puede dejarse y entenderse sin problema. Quien quiera entender EE.UU. puede hacerlo y el resto de los americanos no podrán sentirse ofendidos tampoco con los adjetivos, si creen que se achacan a ellos (en mi opinión).

Les hubiera dicho que se refiere a los Estados Unidos específicamente porque los estilos tienen nombres de varias partes de los Estados Unidos, así que usé "Estados Unidos de América" en lugar del ubicuo "América".... ;-)

Si te quieres librar de la aparte que dice América y buscas algo más "europeo", te puedes permitir la licencia. No es literal, pero estará mejor aceptado.

Tan característicos y hermosos como la propia Atlantis.

Si no quieres tomarte esta licencia , puedes recurrir a

tan peculiar y tan hermoso como la misma América, suena más al ontinente entero, y parece que no es tan patriótico

The other reason it works better with a plural is that the idea is basically that of \'distinctive\' in the sense of varied. The implication of \'America\' in the original is the broad variety of beauties in the different regions of the United States. This sense is entirely kept by saying \'Américas\', and it provides an extra feeling of inclusiveness to non-English-speakers in the US or elsewhere who might be reading the ad. I am sure the client would approve.

Creo que quién debe decidir sobre mencionar o no América, es quién escribió el texto (o el cliente que encargó la traducción) y no los traductores.

El cambiar esa palabra puede cambiar todo el sentido (tal vez sea un producto americano USA)...el traductor debe traducir sin cambiar el sentido. El cliente debe ser inteligente para usar el texto como mejor convenga para su marketing!
