Trattasi di messe "ineinander geschachtelt", da dove la mia proposta (sarebbe "messe a incastro", letteralmente, ma dalla descrizione mi pare più una catena...)
Per "messe a catena" ho trovato un solo riscontro in google.
Il concetto direi che è quello, tipo catena di montaggio, via una messa l'altra, ma non so se esista una definizione più ufficiale in italiano.
Spero tuttavia di esserti d'aiuto! :-)

mi viene in mente ora: il concetto esatto (sempre stando al link che riporto) sarebbe "a staffetta"
