Literally it is "conical columns" but I can't visualise these. Does it perhaps mean "tapered columns"?

You can visualize conical columns easily. Just do not imagine a cone with a pointed tip. Think of tapered columns whose cross-section gets smaller upward (first image), or think of a normal column connected to the ceiling by an inverted conical structure (second image).
