Estoy traduciendo el capítulo primero de una novela policíaca de Émile Gaboriau, en concreto L'Affaire Lerouge, y en la parte introductoria explica el lugar y la fecha de los acontecimientos y presenta a los personajes. Uno de ellos, lo describe así: "L'histoire est centrée autour des bourgeois Daburon, juge d'instruction en fonction, et de Noël Gerdy, avocat ici en tant que personne privée."

La historia se centra alrededor de la familia buguesa Dabouron,(aunque no lo dice pero se sobreentiende, podría ser tambien una pareja) juez de instrucción en funciones y de Noël Gerdy, abogado aquí en tanto que particular.
Pero creo que podría quedar mejor ...Noël Gerdy abogado, apareciendo aquí como particular.
No sé puede ser otra opción.
