IMO most likely a typo or (less likely) an OCR error.

As pistons in internal combustion engines are almost always made from aluminium alloy and piston wear produces aluminium particles that find their way into the oil and are circulated through the engine if they aren't captured by the oil filter, the presence of aluminium particles in failed bearings is not surprising.

As pistons in internal combustion engines are almost always made from aluminium alloy and piston wear produces aluminium particles that find their way into the oil and are circulated through the engine if they aren't captured by the oil filter, the presence of aluminium particles in failed bearings is not surprising.
