production inventory, back-up (storage) inventory Explanation: When I worked as an in-house interpreter on a Toyota assembly line, I recall these types of inventories were simply called "production inventory" and "back-up inventory." Production inventory were parts regularly stocked along line-side to meet the normal needs of production, whereas back-up inventory were spare parts placed out of the way, that were brought into production only when a defect occurred. In my experience, the back-up inventory was usually for sensitive parts that experienced a high volume of problems at a given time. Hope this helps... |
