The mesentery has a fan-shape form (because of its folds): this is why it is described this way in the source text....but it seems unusual in English.
(still, very few hits about mesenteric fan).

agree  SJLD: yes, as I just commented to Maria Elisa - I wouldn't use fan-shape or fan-type though - maybe "fan of the mesentery"
