Consumer electronics Explanation: As far as Im aware, a joystick would fall under "Unterhaltungselektronik",Which along with televisions gaming systems, radio/stero equipment is commonly described as consumer electronics (in the US). Information technology as I understand it refers to the the storage/exchange/manipulation of information. Whether both hard and software are covered under this term I can't say. |

IT electronics Explanation: a few links and suggestions: http://www.informationselektronik.at/ This would suggest information engineering http://www.tuv.com/de/en/information_technology_equipment.ht... This refers to products (based on information technology) - IT products and IT equipment - although I am not convinced. http://www.int.uni-rostock.de/index.php?id=97 communications engineering http://www.ug.dk/internationalt.aspx?article_id=english-itel... IT electronics might be usable because it can refer to products. I would leave Informationstechnologie as information technology; the suggestions are for Informationselektronik -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 49 mins (2008-09-17 10:30:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- one could add "products": IT electronics products http://www.hiddenwires.co.uk/resourcesarticles/articles20030... consumer and IT electronics products |

Reference Reference information: In Taiwan, at least, it seems common to make a distinction between "consumer electronics" and "information electronics", with information electronics referring to computers and peripherals. This chapter begins with a discussion on the development of Taiwan's information electronics (computers and peripherals) segment of the industry in section 4.1 (p. 31) Consumer electronics products once played a vital role in Taiwan's electronics industry, accounting for some 20 to 30 percent of total production value and exports. Surging information electronics, accompanied by the stiff appreciation of the NT dollar and a steep jump in labor costs, have hurt the local consumer electronics industry, … (p. 58) http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=JR8KHgM4yLIC&pg=PA58&lpg=... Company example: http://www.nuvoton.com/hq/enu/ProductAndSales/Applications/I... http://www.nuvoton.com/hq/enu/ProductAndSales/Applications/C... As WilRoy says, a USB joystick would normally come under consumer electronics, and the Nuvoton references would appear to confirm this. |
