このような団体はおそらく政府の援助金は受けられず、ただ国会からそう指定されたということで箔がついているものと思われます（ですから寄付するほうも、いかがわしいものではないから安心して大事なお金を任せられるなどの利点がある）。
名誉教授、名誉領事など日本にもいろいろあるので、非営利団体がそれでもおかしくないと思います。
私の大学院時代の教授のひとりはある国の名誉領事でした。彼は "Although the position I was holding was only 'honorific'" だと言っていました。

得点をいただいてからさらに考えました。Wikipedia の "honorific" の項にこうあります。 Sometimes the term is used not quite correctly to refer to a title of honor (honorary title).　
私が米国の日常生活、新聞や雑誌、またひとびとの会話から理解するこの言葉はどうも、この叙述にあるとおり"not quite correctly used" の方のようです。ですが、このような誤用は米国の日常世界のなかに頻繁に見られるものと理解します。連邦議会文書のような正式なものなら間違いは犯さないと思うと案外そうでもないようです。
とにかく非団体ですので、単なる尊称とはどうしても考えにくいのです。私も誤用人間のひとりかもね。

ありがとうございます。ご指摘の通り、一つ前の質問とリンクしています。対象が科学アカデミーなど、会員になることが「名誉」になる団体でもあるので、「名誉非営利団体」というのがよさそうです。ただ、他の方のコメントにもあるとおり、日本語にない「敬称のようなもの」ということでしたので、文章の中で検討してみたいと思います。ありがとうございました。

Explanation:
意味は少々異なりますが、honorificの意味をそのまま日本語にすると不自然で、日本語で書いているならまず使わないような言葉になってしまいます。「こういう場面に日本語ならどういう言葉を使うか」と言うことで、私が今思い浮かぶのは「著名な」です。他にもあるとは思いますが。

必ず訳さなくてはならないとは思いません。対応する日本語が浮かばないという事は、日本語にはこういう敬称を付ける習慣がないからでは？sir, ma'amも訳さない場合がありますよね。

皆さんご指摘されているように、英語では慣用的に使われていても日本語にはそのまま訳出できない部類の語ではないかと思います。すぐに浮かんだのが "名誉団体" という言い方でしたが、良く教授で名誉職などという場合に近い意味合いがあるのではないかと予想します（この場合はまた違う言い方があるのですが）。

しかしてそのままでは、何らかの形で名誉的な条件にある非営利団体、ということなのではないでしょうか。ご参考まで。
