French term or phrase: l'image communicante
Context: "Le concepteur d’image communicante est avant tout un créatif", in a book about design history. I'm also a little unsure what to do about "un créatif".

creative

Explanation:
There seems to be some confusion over what's required here. Is it "image communicante" or créatif?

A creative is the general shorthand used in advertising here

images as communication / image-based communications

Explanation:
I think if you want to make this idiomatic in English, you could do worse than recast the sentence and re-express the same ideas in a slightly different form, perhaps something along the lines of:

"Designing images as communication is above all a creative task."
"Designing image-based communications ..."

Sasha, I pointed out the 24-hour rule not because I have suggested an answer, but because closing off a question so quickly does not allow time for good discussion or further suggestions, references etc.

Remember, the answers and other contributions are not made exclusively for the asker's benefit!
