French term or phrase: textes à l'étude
I thought the correct translation was "study materials" but here are 3 different ways the term is being used throughout the same translation project (report cards):

(l'élève) démontre sa compréhension des textes à l'étude (biographie/autobiographie, fable, entrevue et récit d'aventures)

(l'élève) produit divers textes à l'étude. Elle les devise et les organise de façon presque complète en unités cohérentes selon leur genre. (this is what got me: how could a 9 year old student be producing study materials?)

(l'élève) produit à la main ou à l'ordinateur des textes variés, présentant les caractéristiques des formes de discours et des genres de textes à l'étude avec efficacité.

Insight greatly appreciated, thank you!

Just another suggestion, really.

But I wonder if you would feel better about your own translation of the term if you made it singular, ie material not materials.

I guess you have to live with the slightly pompous tone of the source document!

material(s) is indeed the best catch-all -- and texte(s) à l'étude is repeated so many times in various contexts throughout these 32 pages of report cards, material(s) will serve me well and keep me out of trouble :) Thank you!

set texts

Explanation:
The second occurence is strange. It could be that the children are askd to organise the books in the classroom according to theme, or in alphabetical order, or date, or by publisher. In France, children are taught how a library works and where to find the author, publisher, illustator of a book at a very young age.

...in which case 'produire' would be 'collects or chooses' rather than 'writes'.

Maybe 'Classroom texts'?

neutral  sueaberwoman: I'm a bit concerned that "set texts" is seemingly more of a UK term and even then generally used in higher levels of education.

-> True, but then the Fr is also rather 'elaborate' for nine year olds...

There's also "reading assignments", although I'm not sure that everything is meant to be read; some of the tasks seem to involve identifying and classifying.
