lo he traducido por "aristócrata menor e importante bebedor", pero no me acaba de gustar. ¿Alguna sugerencia?

The son of a diplomat, he was a minor aristocrat and a major drinker who was heading for an effortless first in the languages he had spoken fluently since he was a child.

  -> Gracias por el comentario, Tomás. Me ha hecho pensar un rato. Si digo un menor aristócrata, sí se puede entender que es menor de edad, "aristócrata menor" creo que es una expresión que se utiliza lo suficiente como para no dar lugar a esa confusión.

en la versión original se esta jugando con dos términos del lenguaje musical, te propongo esta opción que es también una especie de juego entre dos términos opuestos, ya que es literatura nos podemos dar el gusto y y jugar un poco, verdad? :-)
