Sato did have a big off in the dying seconds of qualifying as Kimi's McLaren, on a cool down lap, squeezed into Takumo's Jordan attempting to complete his third timed lap in a row.

Explanation:
The snow was getting to be a big problem for me by now as I couldn't get it off my googles and couldn't ride with my goggles off. I decided that this lap would be it as I wasn't experienced enough and would have a big off if I continued.
