knowledge banking Explanation: This is what we called it in my former workplace (when I had a "proper" job rather than translating). "A varied choice of methods, from knowledge banking and Communites of Practice to intranet usage and document management track and provide intuitive grid ..." www.ikmagazine.com/xq/asp/sid.0/volume.3/issue.2/qx/display... "He is also responsible for the Development and Knowledge Banking function, which includes focus on Food and Agri Strategic Advisory and Research (FASAR), ..." www.cleantechforum.com/node/19 - 78k -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 days (2008-07-08 07:30:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I don't personally like the term because of its financial aspect. However, it is generally used and accepted as part of "management-speak" and, therefore, I use it too. It is used about both pooling knowledge and capitalising upon experience. The basic idea is that the organisation acts as the knowledge bank of its personnel, so everybody contributes and nobody is indispensible. This can, of course, be seen altruistically or in the light of such cynical thoughts as: the company can bank the skills, knowledge and experience of their staff and then freely sack them. |
