Mobile conversion boxes Smart businesses long ago cottoned onto these gadgets, which tack on to a company's telecoms PBX switch. Whenever a company extension dials a mobile number, the call is routed through the mobile box, which switches it into a call made on the mobile operator's network. In other words, an Eircom-to-Vodafone call - which incurs hefty interconnection fees - is transformed into a Vodafone to Vodafone call. Depending on the deal your company has with its mobile operator, this costs significantly less than a landline to mobile call. Vodafone, O2 and Meteor offer this service. “It's currently a little pricey to put it in, but with the new generation of PBX boxes, it's easier to do,” said Chris Handley, head of business products in Vodafone. “The result is savings for the corporation, even if it's not such a great deal for the telcos or for us.” http://archives.tcm.ie/businesspost/2007/03/04/story21398.as... |
