Idle cut off switch Explanation: Some speed control units have various special functions . For instance if a motor would accelerate at more than a fixed preset value , the cruise control will also cut out , indicating someone crashed you from behind. In this case it looks to me as if or whenever the throttle is closed totally , the engin falls into switch off mode, thus stopping it from even idling. This is just a suggestion. |

if the accelerator cable breaks Explanation: If for some reason the accelerator cable is broken, or something odd has occurred, as anitadp has eluded to, than the cruse control would disengage and the vehicle would than be back under the control by the brakes of the vehicle. The engine would not stop, but still idle as it would most likely need to be running for the brakes and steering to operate.(power steering / power brakes) So only the cruise control would turn off not the engine. "Idle", is the lowest point a engine will operate in an efficient manner. |

reducing speed, swithching off cruise control but retaining set speed memory Explanation: That is the function of the idle cable roll-off switch. ..."cruise compatible" replacement IDLE cable with the "roll-off" switch that disengages the cruise when you close the throttle. www.cruisemount.com/faq.html The cruise control will switch off, if: 1. Front and/or rear brake is applied 2. Throttle is rolled back or closed, thereby actuating idle cable roll-off (disengage) switch 3. Motorcycle clutch is disengaged (module senses too great an increase in RPM) 4. Vehicle speed is out of operating range. 5. Rolling the throttle more than 10mph above the set speed. 6. Swithched off manually. Troubleshooting: See what happens if you unplug the throttle roll off switch. Just disconnect the 2 wires from the switch under the front of the gas tank. If the switch is faulty, the system will work with the exception that rolling the throttle back will not disengage cruise. groups.msn.com/HarleyTechTalk/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=1329822&Last... One way to eliminate the switch as the problem in testing is to unplug one of the wires going to the roll off switch and it can't give a false signal. The only way you will be able to shut off your cruse would be to tap the brakes or turn off the main switch to the cruse. www.v-twinforum.com/forums/twin-cam-88-engine-technical-dis... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days4 hrs (2008-05-10 14:32:26 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ...requires a "cruise compatible" replacement IDLE cable with the "roll-off" switch that disengages the cruise when you close the throttle. www.cruisemount.com/faq.html |
