I know wikipedia isn't God, but I had kept my suggested translation general as the article goes on to say the following:
"Il concetto di danno, che compare nella definizione, deve essere inteso in senso civilistico, e può quindi consistere in:
un danno emergente, ossia una perdita per una cosa distrutta o perduta, una spesa sostenuta o un'entrata non acquisita;
un lucro cessante, ossia un mancato guadagno.
Il danno erariale si distingue in:
diretto, se è cagionato direttamente ad un'amministrazione pubblica;
indiretto, se, invece, a cagionato ad un terzo che l'amministrazione pubblica ha dovuto risarcire."
