Desculpe o exemplo simples: Se você derrama água no carpete, a água "was poured through the carpet", no entanto, não falamos que a água foi derramada através do carpete - e sim, no carpete!

Below is what I found about this method, which I hope you find helpful (please see link for full explanation):

The University of Georgia Soil Testing and Plant Analysis Lab in Athens uses the saturation extraction method developed at Michigan State University. Another method, which is being used in research trials at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station, has been used in operational situations is the Virginia Tech Extraction Method (VTEM) or pour-through method.

An alternative to the 1:2 dilution method is the "Leachate Pour-through Method," a procedure by which the pot leachates are analyzed for pH and EC. This procedure was developed at Virginia Tech nearly 20 years ago. It is a rather controversial method and so far has not been widely adopted except in the nursery industry in the southern U.S.

pessoalmente não gosto muito das opções derramar, verter ou despejar aplicadas neste contexto. embora a opção passada não tenha bem a mesma conotação de poured, acho que se aplica melhor.

trata-se duma célula num aparelho (talvez um espectrofotómetro ou outra coisa) cuja célula está preparada para que as amostras sejam adicionadas através de tubagem. neste caso refere-se um funil que deve ser para adicionar a amostra e tubagem que deve ser para posteriormente descartar a mesma. Desta forma não é necessário estar sempre a por e a tirar a célula e a lavagem pode ser efectuada na mesma. Há também casos onde uma amostra pode passar continuamente na célula, por exemplo à saída duma cromatografia.

Não sei se já existe um nome específico para este método "pour thru", mas não encontro. Eu chamaria método "passa através", embora não esteja 100% satisfeita com essa opção.

Devido ao comentário dele e dourtos membros, gostaria de insistir que, neste caso, trata-se mesmo de atravessar. "Through" quer dizer "através de" e é mesmo esse o sentido e não outro qualquer. A amostra passa através da célula - atravessa literalmente a célula - seja em continuo ou por adições discretas (cada amostra é adiciona e depois descartada).
