what is it? Explanation: Just trying to figure out what "contrepeau" might be. Imagine your specimen has a crack greater than 0.1mm (in depth, width, length???) that penetrates deep inside the specimen. Alongside it are a number of internal cracks. The internal cracks more than 1 mm below the surface are not taken into account. But what of an internal crack more than 1 mm from the surface but less than 1mm from the walls of the first crack? Obviously, if that 1mm of steel is corroded away, further corrosion will access the deeper crack, so maybe that crack IS to be taken into account. Which means the "contrepeau" would be the walls of any cracks that ARE taken into account. Now, assuming that is what it is, how to say it? One way would be to "globalize" it and speak of "cracks more than 1mm from air contact". |
