A lot of very interesting contributions here. For me this is the best and I've already used it in other contexts so I can't imagine why I didn't think of it. Thanks to everyone. As far as I can gather it's both off-road and on.

"Visit by bike" would be another (to insist upon the touristic aspect of the excursion)...

"Touristic bike ride" might be a possiblity, but it sounds a bit artificial.

Point taken on "biking" bringing to mind motorbikes... Although, if you do a quick Google search, the first articles all relate to all-terrain bikes.
I would say that this term is not as suggestive as the word "biker" for example. For my part I am quite confortable with "biking".

cycle tour vs leisure ride - NFG

Explanation:
Just a couple of ideas. I think it will depend much on how these terms come up in context.

Not convinced that "randonnée cyclotouriste" need really be any different to a "bike ride", particularly such as I used to go on as an 8-10 yr old. I suspect it's a bit like Himalayan trekking: there might have been a time when an above-average level of fitness and experience was required, but to sell the idea they lower the expectations.

bicycle tour

Explanation:
Without more context I'd say bicycle tour is fine for US English. Think of other "randonees":
randonée=hiking
ski randonée=cross country skiing
It probably implies a bike tour through the countryside like hiking or cross-country skiing rather than an urban bike ride. Might possibly imply off-road mountain biking. Need more context.

Example sentence(s):
  • Dick and Jane took a bicycle tour of Yellowstone Park.
