La multiproprietà o timesharing consiste nel diritto ad avere a disposizione un immobile, ogni anno, per un determinato periodo di tempo.
In Europa esistono diverse formule di multiproprietà. Sotto il nome di timesharing troviamo spesso istituti molto diversi dalla multiproprietà che si commercializza in Italia. Infatti, il termine timesharing, mutuato dal diritto anglosassone, raccoglie sotto di sé modi diversi di acquistare una vacanza e non tutti sono tutelati dalla direttiva europea. Tale termine indica, di norma, l'acquisto di una porzione di tempo (non un diritto su un bene) da trascorrere in uno dei complessi residenziali gestiti da un trust. L'acquirente, dunque, non acquista un diritto che può essere rivenduto, lasciato in eredità o ceduto in locazione ad altri, come invece avviene nella multiproprietà tradizionale. (...)
Multiproprietà alberghiera: è una variante della multiproprietà immobiliare: oltre al diritto di usufruire di una camera o di una suite per un periodo prestabilito, si acquistano a prezzo ridotto anche i servizi alberghieri.

A marketing and equity financing concept which permits participants to enjoy vacation accommodation for a fixed, one time amount for life, or shorter contracted period. According to the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), timeshare consumers make a one-time purchase of furnished resort accommodations, at a fraction of whole ownership costs, and pay an annual maintenance fee. Each condominium, or unit, of a vacation ownership resort is divided into intervals, either by the week or points equivalent, which are sold separately.
