public employee


Explanation:
I spent many years working for government in the US. I was generally not an "official" because that implies a high level employee. A civil servant implies someone who took a test - the civil service exam, which is only required for a small percentage of jobs.

"Public employee" is more general and includes all of us, including trash collectors, bus drivers, teachers, policemen, firemen, tax collectors and auditors, etc., etc.

Represents state and local employees in 21 states. FPE is a division of the American Federation of Teachers.

So' querendo ajudar a esclarecer: o Wikipedia confirma que nem todo funcionario publico e' civil servant:

"In the United Kingdom, for instance, only Crown employees are civil servants ... county or city employees are not."

Thus, county and city employees are public employees, but NOT civil servants. And again, I am a public employee, but I am NOT a civil servant nor a government official.
