XXX and I had a trip to Brazil in 2006 to visit some of our friends and XXX clients. Brazil was in the middle of the worst drought in hundreds of years. For a high rainfall country this had a hard impact. Some towns we passed through were limiting water use to a few hours at night only. It was a real shock to see this usually green country after several years with very little rain. Thanks to adapted Nelore cattle, which the Brazilian herd is predominately made up of, the cattle still looked well. This is where adaptation in people and cattle really shine.

We saw thousands of XXX Brahman genetics crossed over Nelore achieving excellent results.

The best producers were still running at $0.60/Kg cost of production and the sell price was about $0.70/Kg so they were still profitable despite severe drought and no export market due to foot and mouth. Remember these are 20000-30000 cow herds with excellent genetics and management that focuses on real issues. Economics, not fashion!!! These figures look similar to those I remember in our last extremely dry time here in Australia in the 90's.
One of the smart things they did as well as using XXX genetics was to introduce legumes into their pastures at a cost of US$70/Ha which doubled their production. ///They have been running at between 1.4-1.7 LSU/Ha///

Comparing cattle breeding technics, costs and profit in Brazil and Australia.

This is the only instance in the document.

Thanks for your help.
