nosocomial

Explanation:
Depending on where your "health care" is. This is perhaps the correct term if related to hospital

disagree  Eric Bullington: Nosocomial infections can also be airborne and bloodborne (among other routes of transmission)

contamination by hand

Explanation:
I think that manu is right in that they are specifically calling attention to the hand. However, I would use "risk of contamination by hand" instead of "risk of handborne transmission".

The point I was trying to make in my remark above was to compare the three in order to illustrate that "handborne" is not a term that is normally used in this context. I was using an analogy. *I'm not suggesting that the translation is in any way related to bloodborne or airborne transmission*.

"Airborne transmission" = 41,300 hits
"Bloodborne transmission" = 1,330
"Handborne transmission" = 7 hits (because this is not a typical term for this kind of transmission)

Also, compare "transmission by hand" (21,500 hits) to "handborne transmission" (7 hits). Or "contamination by hand" (28,800) to "handborne contamination" (1 hit).

agree  Tony M: In the hospital where I worked, we were actually asked to make a video to show people how to wash their hands properly. Unbelievable!

agree  Bourth (X): It's frightening: some time ago I saw a TV report in a French hospital that showed that nurses and medics had little idea of how to wash their hands properly. The lessons were a revelation to many of them!.

-> Thank you, it is one of the key issues in our institution's hygiene guidelines.

neutral  Eric Bullington: I meant by way of comparison try googling the others. Since it's mastitis I think you're right in that it's specifically the hand. I would still say "by hand", normally the route of transmission is "transmission by direct contact".
