anvil Explanation: This image http://www.amagalerie.com/a.pecheur/images/fusion03.jpg came with a caption about "Après 6 ans de travail à la cheville ...", and one wouldn't say working at a dowel or pin. Jewellers do use anvils, though it would be more usual to say "after n years working at his bench" Here is a picture of a jeweller's anvil and it is certainly not at all the shape of a blacksmith's anvil and one could imagine it being described as a "cheville": http://www.hswalsh.com/itemdetail.aspx?i=TA15&t=51 |
