History / Time of Constantine
French term or phrase: inmontrable
Context:

Deals with documents forged for a Pope so that he could take over certain territories.

"Unproducible" document perhaps?

Merci!

impossible to produce
Explanation:
Yes, for me "produce" is the word.

The proposals thus far with "exhibit" make it sound to me as if we're talking about items in a museum.

It looks to me as if it would not have been possible, at the time, to produce (show to people for verification) the documents that are alleged to have existed because had they been produced, people would have suspected they were fake. By not producing them, no one could actually prove that they were fake, that they had not had a seal affixed by the Hand of God or His representative.

agree  Carol Gullidge: sounds quite feasible! or "unavailable" or "temporarily mislaid" (both in quotes!)

neutral  B D Finch: Exhibit "A" for the prosecution? "Exhibit" isn't necessarily a term just for museums.

would not have been presentable

Explanation:
Hello,

My understanding is that this document would not have been presentable because it bore no official seal from Constantine's era.

inmontrable = not fit to be seen

I hope this helps.

(would not be) exhibitable

Explanation:
i.e. they couldn't exhibit the original, if it ever existed, as (being a forgery) it wouldn't have the necessary seals.
