Ich versteh den Satz nicht... "sortir de l'ornière" hießt Gewohnheit ablegen, aber das Ganze macht so für mich keinen Sinn?! Hilfe!

sortir de lornière = hier m.E. eher "aus einer schwierigen Situation befreien" oder ähnlich.

Daher: In Vichy...arbeitet ... Pétain weiter steig daran, Frankreich aus seiner schwierigen Lage heraus zu manövrieren / zu befreien / Frankreich wieder nach vorn zu bringen/ , in das die Unvorsichtigen undsoweiter... das Land gestürzt hatten.
