I see that potasse can mean potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate and I do not know which is meant here. Not enough context for me either, as I do not know what columns they mean (no column mentioned in rest of method although as "eau permutée" is used later, I wonder whether it is for water purification).

En remplaçant la préchloration par une préoxydation au permanganate de potassium dans les processus de traitement de l'eau potable, on a pu démontrer qu'il s'agit d'un système très efficace pour réduire la formation de THM, composants organochlorés au caractère cancérigène. disagree  Karen Tkaczyk: Potassium permanganate dissolves in water to give deep purple solutions. Teh ST says 50% solution. It hink that would be purple. The more important point is that since the anion is not specified in the ST it should be specified in the translation.
