What I'm working on is basically a summary of a research project. This is what they are calling the document. I'm thinking "advance report," but is there a better or more accepted translation?

Thank you, everone for your input. I also liked Harvey's "special report," but since I have learned that a full report is to come out next year, I think "preliminary" is the best choice.

Abstract

Explanation:
If it is the summary of a research project, could it be an "abstract"?

I'm not sure, I would be tempted to go with something like "project summary" for this one. I don't think "advance report" is good, because this large project is already completed, and advance report would sound like something that is printed to give the status of a project that is still ongoing yet nearing completion.

I wonder if "special report" or something would be appropriate here... Sorry I'm not much more help!

Asker: Sorry, perhaps summary wasn't the best word to describe it. It's 45 pages in all, so it's not an abstract.

Asker: I see what you're saying. Thanks for pointing that out. I will have to find something different, because advance report would have the wrong connotation.

executive summary, condensed report...

Explanation:
Some other alternatives to consider. I am not sure if the Japanese title is appropriate if a full report already exists (is there?). It seems to be at least shorter, then you can say like condensed report, concise version, etc. An executive summary is usually much shorter than 45 pages, I guess, but it may not be beyond the definition of the expression.

Asker: The full report is coming out in January 2008, I just discovered.
