French term or phrase: fond vierge
It's talking about specifications/rules for publishing the company logo, and says it includes the "fond vierge" ("Il rédigera... la procédure de rédaction du cartouche... qui inclut le fond vierge..."). Does this simply mean "white background"?

Explanation:
Hello,

My understanding is that it's just a background that is blank.

vierge = blank

I hope this helps.

Thanks all - I'll go with "blank". (See also http://www.unisavecbove.org/spip.php?article830
http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/doc/gifanim.htm
http://rpgvoice.free.fr/Tutoshop2/Tutoshop2.htm) Though I've also seen it used in the sense of "unmodified" (pic of baby placed on choice of "vierge" backgrounds). But, normally, it can't mean 'unmodified' because it wouldn't make sense to put (eg) a black logo on (eg) an unmodified black background - it must normally mean blank/white.
Many thanks.

I found the following references, and comparing the French and the English they do seem to be talking about the same thing:

http://www.unisavecbove.org/spip.php?article830 - gives a good illustration.

http://www.baby-dreamz.com/babydreamz_galerie.htm - shows some rather complex templates of backgrounds for greetings cards etc.

http://www.templatemonster.com/logo-templates.php - the English version illustrated.
