English term or phrase: well kept
"Nice, new hotel with a Caribbean feel. Very attentive staff. They even pulled out and made up the pull out sofa for our 2-year-old. There were cookies in the lobby when we checked in and the breakfast was very well kept. We always try to stay at Hampton Inn's and this one was a step above the rest."

Selected answer:breakfast area was very well kept
Explanation:
Is all I can imagine. It's definitely wrong as it stands.
Even "cooked" would be a bit odd in the context.

I guess they mean that breakfast was some kind of buffet and it was well stocked, nicely presented etc.

BTW there is no apostrophe in Hampton Inns

agree  Peter Shortall: That's exactly what I was just thinking - that "breakfast" really means "breakfast buffet" here

-> Yes, "buffet" might be better than "area"

agree  Sam D (X): Sounds a definite possibility as otherwise it doesn't make any sense

agree  Can Altinbay: Think this is it. It's a non-professional review on Orbitz or some other site, right? The author doesn't even know not to add apostrophes for plurals.

well-kept: nicely maintained

Explanation:
a) It should be written as well-kept.
b) I think here it means the Breakfast buffet was nicely
maintained with a nice assortment of dishes, (both beverages
and foods), and presented in a nice way.

breakfast hours were observed

Explanation:
This might be it. Since breakfast already implies a specific set hour, why bother adding the extra word in there ? :) It's a somewhat elliptical construction.
