. It’s possible some of the neighbours heard shots between two a.m. and four, but we can’t narrow down the time of the shooting any further than that right now. So I’ve asked for input from the intel unit. We need a list of possibles who fit the MO.

Es la primera vez que veo possible acabado en "s".
Pero, si sigue siendo adjetivo, ¿a qué nombre anterior se refiere?
Supongo que MO es "modus operandi".

possibles aquí se convirtió en sustantivo
se refiere a las personas que tiene en la lista de quienes podrían haber sido el asesino

para mí, esto es un sospechoso: personas que posiblemente son los culpables.

el sospechoso no es definitivo, sino uno de los posibles responsables

sospechoso ya incluye el concepto de que es posible, no definitivo....

sospechoso: Que da motivos para creer que ha cometido un delito o una mala acción (Diccionario DRAE)

Explanation:
Creo que en inglés al igual que en español este "posibles" es una forma (no gramatical) de decir que hay muchas "posiblidades".

No sé qué o cómo sea lo que estés traduciendo y el estilo de su autor, pero quizás sea "intencional" en cuyo caso lo dejaría en español, entre comillas (si es que no desentona, como no me parece que lo haga en inglés. Una novela policial -que no es mi fuerte como dice Noni, no creo que deba ser un ejemplo de perfección lingüística -Quijotes, aparte).

"lista de posibles autores" ofrece 201 resultados buscando con Google; "autor de los disparos", 29.500 (!). Coincido con Heidi en cuanto a que "sospechoso" ya engloba una posible autoría; "posible sospechoso" resulta tautológico.
