Japanese term or phrase: 純正
I know it means pure or genuine, but what is the meaning in this sentence (which I think is supposed to be a marketing phrase for some kind of multimedia system)?

純正じゃ物足りない方、サウンドシステムを充実させたい方向け

Any help would be appreciated.

pre-installed; 'standard'
Explanation:
According to the glossary at http://www.h5.dion.ne.jp/~almond/yougosyu.htm,
純正ナビゲーション = 自動車メーカーが販売するナビ。工場装着やディーラーオプションがあり工場装着は新車発注時(生産時)に同時でなければ取り付けができない。

and the glossary entry for ハイレベルインプット at http://www.logon.gr.jp/audio/audio_vocabula.htm gives:
最近では純正オーディオにアドオンするために使われる回路で、デッキ交換が厳しい車に手軽にアンプなどがつくように、スピーカーラインの信号をアンプにつなげらるようにする機材です。

A *very* liberal stab at 純正じゃ物足りない方、サウンドシステムを充実させたい方向け: perhaps something like "Aimed at those for whom the standard system just doesn't cut it, or for those who want to get the most out of their sound system..."

純正オーディオシステムに接続すればオーディオシステムのアップグレードやメディアを追加することができます。
The audio system can be upgraded by connection to the standard (pre-installed) audio system blah blah blah...
I'm sure you'll be able to parse it more eloquently than that...
G'luck!

Clarity, as in pure sound

Explanation:
Clarity, as in "the clarity of pure, unadulterated sound", something for which a "purist" might reach for in selecting an audio sound system. Just my thoughts...

Example sentence(s):
  • Clarity of sound is one of the criteria for selecting a high quality sound system for your home.

agree  Harvey Beasley: This is what I was trying to get at as well!

  -> Yes, exactly! Thanks, Harvey.

  -> Thanks, Casey.

agree  Kurt Hammond: If you want to use with neutral connotation: "standard." Positive connotation: "genuine." "My car stereo sucks. It's the factory standard one that came with the car." "For best performance and reliabity, always demand genuine Toyota replacement parts."

  -> Good point, but 'standard' can be positive too, eg. "The GS 450h comes with 10-way heated and ventilated power seats, Bluetooth hands-free calling, & Lexus's 6-disc in-dash CD changer as standard," "PS3 to come with HDD as standard," etc.

agree  Yuki Okada: I also like "standard." "Genuine" is usually the word for 純正, but it sounds too pisitive when you are trying to sell non-genuine prodcuts.

  -> Thank you, Yuki-san.

agree  flexor: I like and use this term (純正 = standard). Once I had a client tell me to use the word "manufacturer," as in "manufacturer speakers" as opposed to "custom speakers"... So that is another option. The client in that case was a seller of custom car-parts...

default

Explanation:
I think this is referring to "vanilla", as in a system before any upgrades or enhancements.

Though the term "vanilla" is a little slangy... Maybe "standard" or "default installation"?

I know I'm on the right track, but the perfect English escapes me...

Maybe default is best!

純正システムにけっして満足しているわけではないけれども、市販機にグレードアップするにはコストがかかりすぎる、または純正のインテリアが気に入っているのでいじりたくない……。

Not that you're satisfied with the standard default system, but the upgrades on the market are too costly, and you actually like the interior design of the default system....

I'm sure this is referring to the "default" system, rather than the quality of sound.

neutral  Jenelle Davenport: hmmm...let me in on this translation - where does "standard" come into it? Is this some jargon I don't know?
