OK, I spoke with the bandleader, and here is the actual meaning of that badly written phrase. As you can see, I had to take some liberties: The band began with students from the xxxx Music School, who participated in group sessions at a graduate saxophone course taught by xxx. Eventually this group developed into the xxxx big band, and is now finding its niche in professional contemporary jazz and concert music.

I think that "do qual xxx é professor" is just an explanation of who XXX is, and has nothing to do with the rest. Also, "a partir da implementação do curso de graduação de saxofone" is an explanation to locate the event in time. The rest is what matters

Actually I know the guy who leads the band, so I think I'll just ask him. As far as I know, he is still a member of the staff, but I'm not sure what the graduate saxophone course has to do with the band, other than leading to the inspiration to form it. To me this sentence is extemely convoluted and hard to understand!

I see what you mean Amy... I don't think the original sentence is very good... Is this a CV or some such thing? What else do you know about the band? Was the band formed before or after he left the school's permanent staff?
