Japanese term or phrase: アリバイ (in this context)
Hi,
As a part of a Logistics Management System on a hospital, there is this about 在庫管理:

在庫管理:薬品や診療材料のアリバイ、数量管理

I can't see any connection with the usual meaning of alibi. Does it have a special usage I'm not aware of?

Thanks

English translation:whereabouts (locating, identifying the location)
Explanation:
I think the meaning of this アリバイ is derived from the original meaning (a proof of the (suspect's) whereabouts at the time of crime).

It means that when you take inventory, you check and identify the location of these items (equipments, tools, medicines and drugs, etc), maybe against your record(s). This process also includes (and proves) whether they are missing or not. Locate them, and check how many.

Probably in a place like hospitals where people come and go somewhat "freely" and these items are sent out from one place to another, this type of inventory control is necessary, I think.

現場不在

Explanation:
Most common translation for "Albi" is 現場不在証明.
Of course, when it is used under this kind of context, it's nothing to do with crime. It usually used as ”不在", that something is missing from a place, and at particular time, or not present.
In this case, 薬品や診療材料のアリバイ simply means they are not stored, thus absent at the time of, probably inventory.

Let me take back. More appropriate is:
在庫不在
在庫なし
