Zo wat zijn Strings nu eigenlijk? In Flash: een String is iets wat je letterlijk neemt (we komen er later op terug).Dus mijn naam in het bovenstaande voorbeeld is een String (let op de aanhalingstekens). Wil ik een kort verhaal schrijven, dan zal dat ook een string zijn:
verhaal = " Er was eens een jongetje Jesse, en hij leefde nog lang en gelukkig"
De code hierboven creëert in flash een String variabele genaamd "verhaal", die we gebruiken om in te bewaren (als geheugen) en de inhoud is "Er was eens een jongetje Jesse, en hij leefde nog lang en gelukkig".
