Gave more thought on 反動. It could be rebound (in profit)--they booked the loss last year, but they don't have to do so this year. 退職給付制度終了損 is a one-time loss by its nature.

agree  Duncan Adam: But note that the system has been 'changed' not 'terminated' (presumably resulting in the termination of some payments)

  -> Ah, yes. I was a bit careless about it. Perhaps "the termination of the previous retirement ..." or "the alteration in the retirement ..."?

agree  RieM: But, I don't think this is realised loss (実現損益) because it has nothing to do with asset trade. In the previous fiscal year, there was allowance for retirement pensions, which turned to become a gain because of termination of the system. And as a result..

  -> Good point. It should be "recognition of the loss" rather than "realized loss". I don't think, however, that it is a gain because it is a 終了「損」. They started a new scheme and needed more money than the allowance they had set aside.
