agree  Zareh Darakjian Ph.D.: I think this is good. I have seen and heard the expression "trained as a pediatrician" numerous times. I also think "competency in pediatrics" is used in the context of a formal assessment.. which is not the case here

I'd say that as a GP he has experience in pediatrics. Otherwise, he would say "additional/further training," "certification," "accreditation," or something of that sort. "compétence" (skills, expertise, abilities, competency) is very vague. HTH
