English term or phrase: pre-populates
This is a patient record with sex, height, weight, race, body mass index (BMI), smoking classification, etc. Beside the space for filling in the BMI it says: "value pre-populates". How do I put this into Portuguese?

O valor preenche-se automaticamente / por si
Explanation:
Hi Dr. Kathleen:
If you won't give us more context, then based on the answers above it would have to be this.

Note that the text is in the PRESENT TENSE, therefore they are talking about an ongoing process.

So what they mean is the space doesn't need to be filled in manually since it will be filled in another way.

Ted, There IS no more context to give! In all my years of translating medical texts, this is the first time I've come across the expression in this situation. It makes sense, tho', to think in terms of "o valor preenche-se por si/automaticamente" or "o valor preenche o campo" since it's the value that does something. Thanks!

Hi Kathleen: Are you sure??

Explanation:
I just spoke to the head nurse at a large New York hospital.

She had no idea what "Value Pre-populates" means in this context.

Are you sure that's what it says? Maybe you could give some more context??

Thanks,
Ted

valor preenchido preliminarmente

Explanation:
It may be these values are filled preliminarily according to some template that has been fed to a computer. So, for example, when you type in certain data about a person, it calculates it and pre populates the form.

Campo preenchido anteriormente

Explanation:
