It probably is a long raw of "tent" awnings aligned along the route of this exhibition, but whatever they may look like they are called awnings.

Asker: What I don't understand is if these awnings have been specially created for the "parcours" or were they there anyway - I can't really picture them.

IMO: bâches are tarpaulins (or "tarps"), rather than awnings, which are more like "auvents" :-)
