Gängige Varianten sind Finanzierungsgesellschaften, die - mit entsprechendem Eigenkapital ausgestattet - ihre inländischen Mutter- bzw. Schwestergesellschaften finanzieren, wobei die Fremdkapitalkosten ins steuergünstigere Ausland als inländische Betriebsausgaben abfließen, um sodann als Beteiligungserträge steuerfrei nach Österreich zurückzugelangen. Im Unterschied dazu dienen „Durchlaufgesellschaften“ keinem Rückfluss, sondern dazu, Werteströme dort „zwischenzuparken“, wo gleichermaßen ein steuergünstiger Empfang wie auch eine steuerbegünstigte Weiterleitung an den Endempfänger rechtsmöglich erscheinen.

neutral  RobinB: I'm not sure that "equity earnings" is necessarily the same as Beteiligungserträge, see http://www.eagletraders.com/advice/securities/equity_earning... which suggests a much narrower definition than the financing arrangements in this question.
