What does everybody think this means?
I have only ever seen 合併 used as "merger," but could this be a strange way of saying "consolidated operating income"? I would think that would be expressed with 連結 instead. Any ideas?

This was a team effort. I wish I could reward everyone with points. This phrase was given to me without any context whatsoever. The client said, "Oh, and throw this phrase in with the last translation" (which had nothing to do with a financial statement or the like). My rationale for going with this option is that, as Yo pointed out, 連結 is usually used for "consolidated." I'm looking at the company's website, and they repeatedly mention "two technologies." Although there is only one business, perhaps they are talking about combined income from both of these technologies. My selection may be a little premature, but I have to deliver the file.

It should sound something like: The merger of commercial incomes in the period 7/2004 - 6/2005. Now, depending on the rest of the context, it can get "have been merged" or something different. Hope it helps... Ganbatte!

Although "consolidated" does seem to work here, I think I would go with "amalgamated" here to make the distinction between "連結"　which as you describe is the word that is often used as the translation for "consolidation".
