• Snail Kite: The Snail Kite is a medium-sized hawk with a wingspan of about 45 inches. It maintains a diet almost exclusively of freshwater apple snails. Snail Kites inhabit areas near the headwaters of the St. John's River, the southwest side of Lake Okeechobee and a few other areas within the Everglades.
