The Waste Authority was established in 1986 as an autonomous body to undertake the waste disposal functions.
The Waste Authority manages the rubbish and recyclabes collected by the borough.
The Waste Authority disposes of around 500,000 tonnes of rubbish per year, in a safe and cost effective manner. Most of this is household waste generated by a population of some 950,000 residents.
These are the general activities undertaken by the Waste Authority:
- The Rubbish Cycle
- Transfer Stations
- Recycling
- Waste Minimisation
