We love to pronounce that "i":

Chuck Mangione = Man-jee-on-i, not Man-jo-ni
Joe DiMaggio = Dee-ma-jee-o, not Dee-ma-jo
Rocky Marciano = Mar-see-a-no, not Mar-cha-no

neutral  Y. Peraza: That corresponds to MASCHIOTTI. And it means "little males"... :-) Deborah, thank you again for your notes.

-> all right, that was just a guess:)

neutral  Deborah Hoffman: Actually some Americans might pronounce it that way, or something like Mas-Kee-Otti (cringe)

Explanation:
I'm sorry, I don't have the cirilic alphabet in this pc... And I am not American either, but Masciotti is pronounced as Mashiotti, at least in Italy, I guess it's the same in the USA.
My second chioce would be Масётти, because maybe the American don't know how to pronounce the Italian "SC".

agree  Сергей Лузан: Да, для них часто свойственно звуковое воспроизведение имён собственных как на языке оригинала. (Кроме двойного "т" - нет в английском сдвоенных согласных :)

neutral  Y. Peraza: Well, that's exactly what I was trying to write, but as I said I don't have the cirilic alphabet here, so I copied the first translation option and modified it... It's not fair! And the question is how they pronounce it in USA, we know it's Italian...

neutral  Natalia Potashnik: Машотти. Мягкие согласные, передаваемые в русском языке мягким знаком, в английском отсутствуют.
